That level of accuracy and definition rarely contributes anything to the game imo, and it would be much simpler if the rules were something like decide a min and max value. Roll percentile dice to determine where between those values you fall. I think you can use that as a guide and make some more bespoke choices for the magic items you distribute while still rolling on the coin tables in the DMG to give out cash if you so choose. Reply Share Report Save level 2 Ranger 4 months ago I dont really agree with Xanathars distribution system. The left is the minor magic items, the right are the major ones. Minor being items like potions, magic ammunition, bag of holding, etc. Maybe its just me but in a standard 5E game, where most people run 1-2 fights per day, having that many major magic items, causes a lot of bloat and inflation. I know as both a player and DM, including magic items like Flametongue Weapon does nothing but make the game take even longer than it already does, since all the encounters now have to be twice as hard to compensate for the extra Xd6 fire damage you can throw around now. And most people have two responses whenever I say that: Well stop making playing with one adventuring day per session. I have the army of Bloodwing the Reborn coming to invade in 2 months. So itll already take like 3 or 4 IRL months for that to happen. ![]() If he does a lot of fire damage, send fire-resistant enemies. And thats true as well, but you can only do that so many times. Every single time I play a Gloom Stalker, even in the depths of the black abyss, there are 3-4 torches. Every single time. There has to be a balance between you getting to do your thing, and you being knocked down a peg. My party is currently level 18 and on average theyve gotten about 1 magic item once every 5 levels. I dont think Id ever hand out more than that unless I was using Gritty Realism or something. Just choose the challenge rating you want the treasure hoard to be at and it will auto-generate the contents of the hoard for you.
